A Year in Review: 2024

Wow, has it been a year! I started Hannah Bartlett Editing in February, and I can't thank all of my supporters enough for their encouragement through this exciting new chapter of my life (being a business owner!).

While creating my end-of-year business report, I made note of some momentous statistics and experiences to share with you all. Here's my year in review!

In 2024 I got the privilege to edit:

  • 6 poetry books

  • 1 blog post

  • 2 short stories

  • 3 fiction novels

  • 5 stand-alone poems

I started 5 new social media accounts for my business:

  • Instagram

  • Threads

  • LinkedIn

  • Bluesky

  • Pinterest

I gained 4703 followers across these accounts!

I joined 5 editor/writer groups:

  • Editors Tea Club

  • Editorial Freelancers Association

  • American Copy Editor Society

  • Editors with Disabilities Group

  • The Green Pen

And here are some miscellaneous business achievements:

  • I gave out my first business cards

  • I attended my first ACES conference

  • I wrote 20 blog posts

  • I participated in dozens of webinars and editor meetings

  • I put so many hours of work into this website

  • I wrote a self-care guide for writers and have started writing a poetry self-editing checklist and webinar to offer in 2025

There were also some momentous personal achievements in 2024!

  • I went on my honeymoon and saw the ocean for the first time

  • I presented my poetry at a national conference

  • I had my gallbladder removed (good riddance!)

  • I took a part time daycare job that I LOVE

  • I went to 2 amazing concerts (Hozier and Beach Bunny)

  • I made huge strides toward recovery from my driving phobia

  • I got a poem published in a magazine

  • I celebrated one year of marriage with my wonderful husband

  • My husband, cat, and I moved to be closer to family

  • I read 183 books (so far! It will probably be more by the end of the month)

And the best part of it all? I made genuine connections with so many people this year. If you've ever taken the time to chat with me, business related or otherwise, I want you to know that it meant so much to me. Being a freelancer can be lonely; so many of us struggle to make friends, get out of the house, and connect with others. A lot of us work from home and have somewhat of a reputation of being hermits. It does get lonely sometimes, but every connection, no matter how small, has brought me great joy and I can only hope I can give back even a fraction of what our community has given me.

I couldn't have this dream job without the incredible people who have entrusted me with their work. Thank you SO MUCH!

If you have ever recommended my services to someone, shared my posts, subscribed to my newsletter, purchased my self-care guide, taken the time to give me advice, helped me with a technical or design issue, or anything else I haven't mentioned here, THANK YOU!!

As we reach the end of 2024 and start looking forward, a lot of us tend to make resolutions. Here are some of my 2025 goals and dreams:

  • Book out 3 months (or more!) in advance at some point in the year

  • Read more books by indie authors

  • Read 150 books

  • Attend 2 bookish conferences

  • Take at least one class on developmental editing

  • Offer a poetry self-editing checklist and webinar

  • Collaborate with more amazing authors and editors on cool projects

  • Guest post on a blog and ask people to guest post on mine

  • Be a podcast guest

  • Practice more intentional self-care

And, of course, I hope to edit more phenomenal manuscripts. If you're ready to start thinking about 2025, fill out my inquiry form!

Thank you for reading and happy holidays
