30 Fall Writing Prompts

It's finally starting to really feel like fall! This season always makes me want to write, and I know that many people feel the same way. If you're looking for a short (and more ethical) alternative to NaNoWriMo, this will be perfect for you! These cozy-with-a-hint-of-spooky prompts can be used for both fiction and poetry.

Are you planning on submitting what you create and want an editor to give you some feedback? Contact me! I'll charge a flat $20 fee for up to five poems or 1,000 words.

I also have a list of great, FREE places to submit your work this fall.

Without any further ado, here is a list of 30 fall writing prompts to get your creative juices flowing for #AcceptanceAutumn!

Writing Challenge Reminders and Suggestions

  • Take breaks when needed. Your mental and physical health take priority.

  • You don’t have to adhere strictly to the prompt if your piece is taking you somewhere else.

  • Share and get feedback on your work, even if it's with your cat. You deserve to be heard!

  • Not everything you write has to be perfect. The purpose of this challenge and many others is to generate first drafts to polish later!

  • Skip prompts if they don't jive with your brain. Take what works and release what doesn't.

If you take part in this writing challenge, I would love to see what you write. Please tag me on social media! You can find me on Instagram and Threads @hannahbartlettediting.
